The Poem I Couldn’t Write

If I could say something I knew you would hear, I would tell you that the world is kind and sunsets will tuck you in with silence and soothing futures. The poem I couldn’t write dried up in the desert heat where I dropped the last cigarette from my mouth, and you heard the only stanza barely formed, just like that.
